Refurbishment 2024 updates

The main phase of the building work is complete and we will be reopening the pool hall as planned on the 5th September at 06:30am. Whilst the majority of the work is complete there are still improvements to be made which will be completed over the the coming weeks. 


27/08/24

We now have hot water and the issue has been resolved with the commisioning of our new boiler! 


26/08/24

We now have limited hot water. The issue will not be fully resolved until tomorrow.  

PLEASE NOTE WE CURRENTLY HAVE NO HOT WATER. WE DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO BE RESOLVED UNTIL LUNCHTIME ON THE 27TH AUGUST. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The lounge and dining areas are now open as normal.

Please note, the lounge and dining areas are currently closed whilst our new furniture is being delivered. The decking and patio areas are open as normal.

A reminder that the deadline for letting us know what you would like to do with your membership during our pool hall closure is this evening (31st July).

If you haven’t already, please CLICK HERE to read the explanation. If you intend to carry on using the club and have the credit, you do not need to do anything and the vouchers will be automatically issued at some point WC 12th August.

As previously announced, the pool hall will close on Sunday 4th August at 10pm.

From Monday 5th August access to the club will be via our temporary entrance to allow for our contractors at AC Stonemasons to begin work on restoring the stonework at the club entrance. Some disabled parking will be closed but other parking spaces will be reallocated as disabled parking. Please be respectful of this.

Tuesday the 6th August the new furniture for the lounge and restaurant will be delivered therefore there will be disruption in the Orchard Café on Tuesday. We will endeavour to work on each area at a time but please be patient with our contractors during this work. The decking will be available throughout.

I am also delighted to announce we will be holding a members “BBQ and Disco” on Friday 23rd August. There will be 150 Tickets for the BBQ at £5.00 per person and information on how to purchase the tickets and details of the event will be displayed at the Orchard Café shortly.  If you wish to join us for the disco and drinks then that is free and it would be great to see you at the club.

Dear member,

I am writing to you to confirm the details of the exciting refurbishment plans at Holmer Park in the coming months.

We have previously informed you that we want to refurbish the swimming pool hall and I’m delighted to let you know that this work will begin in August. We will be emptying the water from the swimming pool and replacing the vinyl liner and we will be removing all of the stone slabs surrounding the pool and replacing with tiles. We will be upgrading various aspects of the pool hall and swimming pool plant too.

In line with feedback from many members we are also going to increase the number of loungers on poolside by replacing the small childrens pool. We have recently completed a review and analysis of swimming pool hall usage which confirmed that the majority of children use the main swimming pool. We believe that the enhanced relaxation space will be more conducive to the enjoyment of the vast majority of our members.

This project is a huge undertaking and we will be working weekends and evenings to deliver this in a timely manner.  In order to accommodate these improvements, the pool hall will close at 10pm on the 4th of August 2024 and will reopen at 6:30am on the 5th September 2024. The gym, exercise classes, changing rooms, Orchard Café, and Spa treatments will be available as normal during this period.

Whilst the pool hall is closed, this is a great time for you to enjoy or perhaps try other facilities at Holmer Park. During the work in the pool hall, we will be offering additional classes/ workshops and for those members who do not normally use the gym, we would like to invite you to have a one-to-one personalised programme appointment with a with our friendly team of instructors where they can devise an exercise routine specifically for you. Our state-of-the-art Technogym equipment is some of the very best in the area and we would love to demonstrate to you the benefits of using the gym. 

Clearly the closure of the pool hall for this period of time will have a varying impact on members according to the facilities you use and we are therefore offering a choice on how you are compensated. These options are as follows:

  • Receive vouchers to spend in the club that equate to the value of your membership fees for the month of August. These vouchers can be redeemed over the next twelve months and used in the Orchard Café, the spa and personal training. You will also be able to continue to use the Club throughout August whilst the work is carried out
  • Suspend your membership during August and not use the Club whilst the refurbishment is taking place. If you are paying by DD this will mean we simply take a £5 suspension fee in September, and if you pay annually, you will have an extra month added to your membership for free at your next renewal. You will not receive the vouchers.

In order to help us activate the change you want please can you complete the form below if you wish to suspend your membership. The suspension fee will be collected in September rather than in August to allow for you to have an extended period of time to decide what you would like to do and for the team time to process these changes accordingly. Please note that if we don’t receive a form from you by 31st July then we will assume you are taking the option for receiving vouchers.

If you want to carry on using the Club and receive the vouchers then you need to do nothing. We will issue the vouchers automatically WC 12th August. 

During the closure, we will also be doubling your member food discount in the Orchard Café to 20%, increasing your discount on Spa Treatments to 30% and increasing your discount on Temple Spa products to 20%.

Alongside the pool refurbishment we are also carrying out further improvements in the Club. Work has already begun off site to restore and replace stonework at the main entrance to the building. We will be sympathetically rebuilding the stairs and restoring the stone work on the columns and around the main entrance door. This work is expected to take 6-8 weeks and we will need to create a temporary entrance to the Club whilst the work is ongoing.

In addition, we have purchased new furniture for the lounge and restaurant. The new furniture has a modern, bright look and we hope you like it. This improvement will increase the amount of seating by approximately 30%. Please note we are keeping the round tables in the bay windows in line with customer feedback.

We are also working on upgrading our membership system and we will write to you shortly to confirm the details of that. There will be very little noticeable change for you. 

This significant plan of improvement projects across the building is a considerable investment into your club. I hope this, yet again, demonstrates our commitment to providing our club members with the best possible facility. Holmer Park is a unique Health Club and we are proud custodians of this beautiful building.
