As therapists who offer fantastic facial treatments in Hereford, it’s not surprising you’ll hear us raving about the importance of eye care! The eyes and eye area are the most delicate part of the face and as such should be looked after and accentuated suitably. Through proper care and the right makeup, here are Holmer Park’s top tips for bright eyes!
Healthy is beautiful
Because of our busy lives, we often neglect one of our most important features – our eyes. Through straining at screens all day and not getting enough sleep we can end up with red, tired eyes, a puffy under-eye area or dark circles. Makeup can only do so much and, before applying any cosmetics, we always recommend a healthier overall lifestyle first!
Try to get at least eight hours’ sleep and regularly give your eyes a break from the computer screen. If you wear them make sure you care for contact lenses correctly. If you don’t already, we highly suggest you wear an eye cream – one with sun blocking properties during the day and one with rejuvenating and healing properties for night time. Holmer Park Spa recommends the Babor product range.
Our makeup advice
Your eyes are delicate – we’ve already said it but we’ll say it again! If you’re putting chemicals around your eyes, sometimes so close they’re practically in your eye’s waterline, then it’s best to use high quality makeup rather than a cheaper brand. OK, you might save money with cheap makeup but it may carry a greater risk to the wellbeing of your eyes.
If you’re drawing attention to your eyes with makeup, we say make them your face’s only defined feature! Going for heavy eye makeup with a dark lip colour and a lot of blush might be what you want – and power to you for being bold! – but sticking to highlighting one facial feature can suit a lot more women in a lot more circumstances. A lunch date, work, going out for drinks… it’s a rule that never lets us down.
Before you apply colour and product, it’s important to lay a good base. A thin layer of concealer, foundation or primer will first smooth out any imperfections and disguise natural colour – like redness or prominent veins – and help your eye makeup look the best.
Accentuating what you’ve got
Everyone’s eyes are unique – it’s what makes them so beautiful. It also means not every makeup rule can be applied to every individual… Your eye shape and set are important factors in how to make the most of what you have. For instance, softening prominent eyes with a medium shadow and no highlighting shades that contain shimmer can make them appear deeper-set.
You should also consider skin tone when applying colour to your eyes. Some colours, even colours you love, may not work or make your eyes look smaller.
If you’ve been doing your eyes the same way for a long time and feel you need to switch up your look, now more than ever it’s incredible easy to try new things! Times change and there are so many incredible Babor products and ideas for the eyes that you might want to introduce into your routine. YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest are all endless resources for getting inspired.
Removing your makeup
And finally, when you’re taking your makeup off, please be gentle! The skin around your eyes is very thin and scrubbing away at it with a makeup wipe or a cotton pad won’t do you any favours. Press and dab instead with a gentle makeup cleanser that is specially formulated for eyes. Just soap and water is a no-no! As well as not being fun when you get soap in your eye, normal soap isn’t meant to be interacting with the sensitive skin of your eye.
Wearing and removing makeup regularly can upset the balance of the skin around the eyes so it’s important every once in a while to treat yourself to a facial. Let our Hereford beauty therapists restore the natural brightness to your eye area! If you’re in a hurry, our 15-minute Mini Clean and Boost is a quick and powerful way to fresher looking eyes.
Of course, we can’t always be there to keep your eyes looking their best but, by follow the above tips, they’ll be stunning from when you leave us to when we see you again next!
